bryn-johnson“After losing 100 pounds on The Virgin Diet, I discovered that most of the ‘healthy’ foods I had been eating at every single meal for decades were killing me from the inside out.”

Lisa-Sasevich“You can imagine my surprise when I learned that a food I loved, and that I thought was keeping me skinny, was making me bloated, tired and irritable! Who knew? I love feeling wonderful, energetic and focused! Thank you JJ! You transformed my life forever!”

Kirin-Christianson“For the longest time I accepted that my tummy excess was due to having children and gaining 115 pounds combined for my pregnancies. But once I eliminated all of JJ’s problem foods, for the first time since being a mom, I had a flat tummy! All that time I was bloated and didn’t know it!”

Kirin Christianson

Pamela-Bruner“I remember saying to JJ, “I think I look pretty good for 48 years old.” And she said ‘Why not just look good, period?’I saw that I’d be settling for second best… I love how fast the weight fell off.”

I started one of my many weight loss journeys January 2nd 2012 doing Weight Watchers. I started out at 221.4 lbs, size 18 or 20 jeans, size 3x or 4x shirt. Weight Watchers is a good program that allows you to eat the foods you want as long as it is within your point allowance. I did well for the first 8 months on the program, getting down to 172 lbs. However, with some life issues I fell off of the weight loss wagon through the rest of 2012.

In January I decided to get back on that wagon after getting back up to 192 lbs. In February I met you, you gave me your book telling me to try it, “It is just 3 weeks” you said. At first I was skeptical. How on earth can I do this and cut out all these foods I love. What do you eat? These were my thoughts. Looking at the food list I was sure I was not going to do the diet, however your book changed my mind. Reading your book made me realize why I should cut out these foods, and how it would be better for me, as well as my family if I could get them on board.

I started The Virgin Diet mid-February at 183.6 lbs. I am 150 today, wearing a size 8 jeans and a medium to large shirt. I feel that I probably have another 10 lbs to go, maybe 15 before I truly feel good about myself, however I am pretty proud of where I am at now. I am working out, I have followed your program by doing a shake for breakfast, a shake for lunch and then my dinner from the choices you suggest. I found out that I have a food intolerance to corn, by accident twice (both from not reading the label completely). I have yet to have peanuts, and stay away from artificial sweeteners except Stevia. I did not have a reaction to anything else.

I am 38 years old, I am close to the same size I was when I graduated 20 years ago. I have spent over half of my life overweight. After high school I was no longer walking everywhere, but driving – however still eating the foods I always ate. To look back and realize all the things I missed out on – cute clothes, activities, having confidence, it makes me angry at myself.  In the past 20 years I have probably spent 18 of those years over 200 lbs.

I love the new me. I know that I have been in contact with you throughout this journey but I really want you to know that I am so thankful for you coming in here in February and talking to me and giving me your book. It has changed my life, and I know that it will be a change I will take on for good. I feel so much better, healthier, confident. I no longer feel like I need to hide, I feel like a brand new person.

The picture on the left is of me 10 lbs heavier than what I was when I started my journey January 2012. I don’t have many pictures of myself because I hated the way I was. The picture on my right was taken about 10 lbs ago – what a transformation. I look at this picture every day to keep me motivated and to help me see where I was, where I am and to know that I don’t want to go back.

I could never thank you enough – I owe THIS to you….

“I am on day 9. I’m absolutely convinced now, that my problem must have been a food intolerance issue. My doctor even agrees with you! I am your typical dieter: Lots of low-fat yogurt, skim milk, Special K, boiled eggs, soy milk, edamame, even Pam cooking spray (which contains soy). The first few days seemed awful as I couldn’t figure out what to eat, but I managed and now restocked my fridge. Yogurt, butter, eggs, and Diet Coke are gone, replaced by unsweetened almond milk, coconut, squash, salad items and fresh meats. Extra virgin olive oil is over my stove now instead of Pam spray. I ate three full meals today and a snack, just got on the scale and lost 9 pounds in 9 days. You know those diets where you weigh yourself first thing in the morning, before you even brush your teeth, for fear you accidentally swallow water and put on an ounce? I weight myself at night now and still awesome result. I am amazed and feel fantastic. No bloating, intestinal issues or headache like my “normal” day. My eczema is even clearing up. I had no idea I could feel like this. Thank you for putting me in the right direction. 30+ pounds to go!

Today, I lost another pound, so that is 10 pounds in 10 days. It’s like magic. I worked out at the gym today and felt great, knowing I could come home and eat! I made my own version of Thai curry panang. Rice noodles, red curry paste, coconut milk, stir fried with shrimp in coconut oil. Amazing. I am becoming more comfortable with the new ingredients I have to work with – and it’s getting easier every day.”

“I have been doing the Challenge for almost 8 weeks now after seeing a promo spot on PBS right after Thanksgiving. Then I got the book as soon as it became available. I’m still in Cycle 2 and have lost 18 lbs so far!

I am 38 and not actually overweight. Most folks that look at me wonder why I would even do a “diet” because I’m small, petite and pretty active. Also, I normally have a clean bill of health on my annual physical with blood work and such.

But I’ve had issues with aches all over my body but primarily in my hands (arthritis feeling), reflux and indigestion and recurring acne. Also, I had gotten to the highest weight for me and developed a bit of a “muffin top.”

Since doing the Challenge, most of the aches have gone away and the indigestion is completely gone! Also, my skin has cleared up and feels so much better! And the muffin top is slowly dissipating and my clothes are getting loose! Plus, I just feel better overall.

So, I want to especially encourage those who are not necessarily “overweight” that this Challenge can still be beneficial for you too. Again, thank you for all of your help!”

“I started reading your book last night. I have been struggling with overweight for a few years, all started after my second pregnancy. I would diet and excercise, and then all the weight came back making me feel sick. At age 16 I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia, or low sugar levels in my blood. I have suffered from constipation since a newborn, I still do. My last effort to lose weight was with the Visalus Soy Protein Shakes. For some reason, I wasn’t felling good while taking them. I got constipated for over a week, lost 2 pounds, and then started gaining the weight. I gained 5 pounds total. My stomach was feeling weird, and my mind was no longer in my head. I started to diet little by little by avoiding rice, pasta, and coke. I have lost 17 pounds so far. But then I got stuck. I started looking for answers in Google and I read about your book, it took me to your webpage and I saw how the book looked like. I saw that book at Walmart! I said!

So on my Android phone, I started reading the sample of your book. I was in a total shock! What I thought was good for me really wasn’t. I felt if you knew me and you were describing me. I got a goiter in my thyroid 3 years ago, and to know that soy could be attacking my thyroid (which I only have 1/2 left due to the goiter removal surgery). I started to understand why it’s so hard to lose weight. I have been 3 days dairy, gluten and sugar free and I feel tired and weird, but my stomach feels much better. I have lost 2 pounds on three days. Now I can tell that what you are saying in your book is so real. I will take the challenge. I trust on it, cause when I avoid those foods I feel much better, can’t wait to see what to avoid those foods will do for me in 21 days.”

“You won’t believe that my hip replacement surgery is cancelled due to the JJV diet. At first I thought it was another variable like 3 cortisone shots that I had. Even my surgeon who is a close friend says, “No, you’re not a nut case.” It’s probably the no sugar, no gluten, no dairy etc. and he’s a famous orthopedic surgeon. The first change was that my fingers and hands worked normally, which has not been true for 10 months. My groin pain from arthritis and osteoporosis is gone after 45 days of JJ’s diet. It had been plaguing me for 8 months. I’m 81 and returned to teaching at my community college in Pasadena because I have so much energy. Thanks JJ!”

“What a divine intervention it was to stumble upon your book. I am a Registered Nurse and have always had such mixed feeling concerning the “American diet.” (It’s so ridiculous, and not to mention unhealthy!!)

I am 54, and lately really have packed on the pounds and felt the aging process consume me. I work around a younger bunch of nurses on the night shift and as their supervisor I seem to always want to pitch in and get the takeout dinner they order. Enough is enough! I am currently on day 5 of your plan and have lost 5 pounds, feel great, and I am the best advertising you can imagine for your book. I do realize there is information available with the same concept, but your book really introduces it in such a way that is very approachable. I bought my college kids each a copy today and met my son at Whole Foods and treated him to a shopping spree and presented the book to him. He is very excited, not totally to my surprise, since he recently saw a gastroenterologist for diary intolerance. He said,“Can I stay on this diet, I mean can you meet me here once a week and we can shop together?” My reply: “You bet honey.” (Both my kids live in apartments, here in San Antonio.) My daughter is a nursing student and is equally excited about reading your book. Both my husband and I have always tried to be more on the cutting edge with our family’s eating habits, but I must say, I realize now how behind the power curve we have been.”

“Hello. I posted on JJ’s Facebook on day 8 of letting go of theses 7 foods she suggested. I had no interest in the weightloss part. It no longer mattered. I am diagnosed for 10 years now with fibromyalgia and have been through some very nasty ailments. If a little weight came off too, that’s great. It did. I have been on one long emotional journey to prove this can be beat. I had to get really sick one more time at the holidays.

On Dec 30th 2012, I was bedridden, fatigued and could barely move in pain. I saw the 7 foods on PBS. I had to hear one more time that this could be food allergy or sensitivity. I started that day since I had had none of those foods yet. On day 3 I woke up in a good mood & was about 75% pain free. I had to keep going. Day 8 I could no longer keep to myself what was happening. I have too many women on my Facebook that are also ailing. I’m pretty sure now I have been misdiagnosed all my life. I had already traced my symptoms back to 8 yrs old. I’m now 40 & haven’t functioned right for 3 yrs. This looks more like Celiac’s to me now that I’m reading into it. Doctors know all about this allergy and not one of at least 50 ever said anything about diet. EVER. Not even about IBS. NOTHING.

It would be really easy to sit here angry, but I’m too happy I’m getting my life back to spend anymore time in anger. JJ asked if she could use my post that day as testimonial. Please use it. I want others in my state of being to see that this is food driven. Not something they did. Or drawing the destiny card of illness. I am left with alot of questions about alot of things. The nasty mental & physical illnesses I am now watching melt away. I am now labeled mentally ill and it’s not true. It’s nice to know that I was actually having bad reactions to foods we were never supposed to eat, in the forms we do, anyways. My life can now go on. I was willing to try anything, had nothing left to lose, and everything to gain.

Thank you for doing this show JJ. You helped, along with doctors on TV, to show me where the real problem was lying. Today is day 16 and it just keeps getting better. Not to mention, I’m looking pretty trim now. I wasn’t terribly overweight. I was one of those that had that last 10 – 15 lbs. My face quit breaking out. I will be forever grateful to you and will recommend your program to those still fighting this disorder called Fibromyalgia. It may be food allergies for the majority. Please keep doing what you’re doing. You are changing lives and reversing disease.”

“I wanted to take a moment to thank you for helping me make an incredible lifestyle change. I’m not looking for anything from you, you’ve already given me enough with your advice. Please feel free to share this email with others as proof of the success of The Virgin Diet. In early December 2012 I came across your program on the Virgin Diet while it was being aired on Connecticut Public Television. I was intrigued by the promise of losing 7 pounds in 7 days by removing things from my diet. What kept my attention however was how you brought up inflammatory disease and its link to allergens in foods. I will be 41 in 10 days and have been fighting with inflammation in my joints for about 9 years. I have always felt a correlation between what I eat and how my joints feel. At times I felt I knew what would cause flare-ups (gluten seems like a major contributor) but I haven’t been able to say for sure exactly what the cause was.

You listed the 7 things to take out of my diet so I decided “Why not, it can’t hurt” and followed your advice. I lost 6 pounds the first week. I was pretty happy so I kept with it. It has now been 5 weeks and I’ve lost 20 pounds. I haven’t exercised at all, just stuck with your advice and removed those 7 things from my diet. I eat 3 meals a day, snack between meals, and the weight keeps coming off. No pills, no crazy eating schedule, no prepared meals, I have just simply kept with the plan. The attached photo shows me in June 2012 at 187 lbs and me today in January 2013 at 162 pounds, the same weight I was over 17 years ago when I got out of the Navy. I feel incredible. I have energy all day, I never feel tired, and I sleep like a rock. Thanks again JJ. Best of luck to you in this new year.”

Eric Curtis“Both me and my husband started the JJ Virgin Diet on Sunday, December 2, 2012. As of today my husband has lost 13 lbs and I have lost 12 lbs. We are so excited and tell everyone about how wonderful we feel. Most of my symtoms have disappeared. Headaches gone! Stiffness in my joints gone! Conjested and unable to breath through my nose gone! But the most remarkable thing is that I am off my blood pressure medicine. Really!!!!! I am a true believer and I am so thankful that I accidently came across you diet. My question simply is that my appetite has decreased quite a bit. For instance, I am not hungry in the morning at all. I start with a large glass of ice water or maybe two glasses and I am not hungry until around 10:30 – 11:00 a.m. Is it the worst thing in the world or should I listen to my body on that one? I would love to hear your thoughts. Oh for the record I’m 53 my husband is 68. I’m thrilled to have lost the weight through this difficult time of menapause. Everyone has said it’s impossible to lose weight now. I’ve proved them wrong …. (smile)

I am currently 133.5 lbs and my goal is 125. I am very close now!”

“My husband and I have both been putting on weight for the last several years. Even with a healthier diet and more exercise we just could not lose the any weight. Along with that we suffer the “usual” aches and pains we associated with getting older. I first saw JJ on PBS one cold afternoon last fall and a lot of what she said made me think and start to wonder. I decided to order the book for my e-reader and the more I read the more things clicked into place as I told my husband about what I was reading we both started to get really excited. Our biggest obstacle is living in a very rural community so a month before we decided to start the diet I started looking for some of the things listed in JJ’s reference guides. We were able to make our own shakes and menu items with JJ’s reference tools as guides. So we set a start date and on Tuesday started the diet.

This morning (Monday) I have lost 7.2 pounds and my husband has lost 4.6pounds as well his knees have not ached for the past 3 days! For me the weight loss is more than enough to keep me on the diet and away from the sweets. We are amazed to see how well the diet is working and thank JJ for getting the word out there on this life transforming diet! ”

Oralee O.

divinia-alvarado“Hi Jj! I am delighted to say i have lost 7 1/2 pounds since January 3, 2013. I did my measurements and just after 10 days, I lost 10 inches; 4 inches in my waist alone. It is so good that I found you as a leader and guide to wellness. In 1997 I was diagnosed with bipolar and had to take up to 20 pills a day. My mother had to help bathe me at times at age 23. Extreme fatigue plagued my life, mood swings, brain fog,and anxiety.

I have been reading your book The Virgin Diet and am learning so much! For example: removing all the FI foods and replacing them with your list in the back of the book. You also mention leptin, which tells a person when he or she is full. This is working for me.I am finally eating properly and love the coconut milk instead of cows’ milk. My dry cough is gone. Instead of bread, I have flaxseeds and beans.

I looked in the mirror and didn’t see that grey fog around my face.I have energy! Headaches are gone! I have clear and alert concentration. I am healthy again!!

I did not let my illness predict my future. I am changing for the better day by day. As for my medications, I only take 6 per day and a vitamin supplement. Also a omega -3 vitamin. I feel great and you JJ I have to thank for it, along with my Christian faith and family support. I get regular doctor checkups too. I am happy and feel young again, like a healthy 20 year old. Thanks again JJ. I will keep you posted.God bless you. ”

“Day 7 stats: down 5 lbs. Waist down 2 inches, chest down 1 inch (Thank God!) and hips down 1/4 inch! Been trying to get to this point for the last year and being on the Virgin Diet it took 1 week! I was never starving or even felt deprived because I was starting to feel so good and seeing such fast results! Can’t wait to see more results! :) I have at least another20 lbs to go to get to a “healthy” weight for my age and height.

Starting Weight: 163.5

Day 7 158.5

Starting Waist Measurement 37″

Day 7 Waist Measurement 35″

Starting Bust Measurement 42″

Day 7 Bust Measurement 41″

Starting Hip Measurement 39.25

Day 7 Hip Measurement 39

This is with very little exercise because I’ve been recovering from recent surgery. So I’m thrilled to feel so good during this process and take off weight!!!! :)

I’m a 45-year-old woman who is pre-menopausal. I’ve been trying to lose weight by “moderation” for 3 years! I did manage to take off 15 – 18 pounds but that has stalled for over a year now. I can’t stand calorie counting or “eating half” or counting points, but I did it all and thought because of my age, hormones and medication I’m just in a losing battle. Seeing such fast results in one week and feeling so energetic gives me confidence that if I stick with the program I will get to my goal weight. As a side note, I suffer from IBS and my gut feels and works already at a huge improvement!

Update Feb. 3, 2013

I’m still seeing results and honestly when I get to end of the day I’m AMAZED at how much I’m getting done. Most days I feel like the Energizer Bunny. My skin is better than it ever has been my entire life. My acne was some zits, but I suffered from whiteheads (and lots of them). There was nothing I could do to get rid of them. But now after removing the 7 foods I have the best skin of my life.

I started January 2, 2013. I’m down 8 – 10 pounds and a whole pant size. For the first time in years, I think I might actually get to my goal weight! Just like JJ said, moderation was making me fat. The best thing I’ve gained from this program is confidence.

I love having a smoothie for breakfast and knowing it’s an option for lunch If I just don’t have time to pack. I always ate breakfast: either nothing or huge 2 hardboiled eggs and some fruit for a mid-morning snack. You would think that would help me lose weight, but it didn’t. I never thought I could “follow the rules” It seemed like it would be so hard, but in essence It’s so easy. Can’t wait to see continued results.”

Janet P.

“We are thrilled with the program already. I told my sister and cousin about the program at Christmas. Now there are 4 of us across the US starting week 2. We keep in touch daily. My cousin lost 7 pounds the first week, my sister and her husband each lost 5 pounds in 6 days. And he hasn’t been able to lose any in years. I’m waiting till day seven. We are all so sold on how we feel that we may not go back to most foods from before and we weren’t bad eaters to start with or so we thought. Thanks again for a great program!”

Luann V.

“As soon as I eliminated the 7 FI foods I felt 100% better. My issue has been irritable bowel since birth. The pain, gas, bloating, cramping, alternating constipation and diarrhea are all gone!

My gastrointestinal tract used to hurt from my mouth to my rectum. Your shake was a Godsend. The video is a great marketing tool to sell your shake, but you also have a real breakthrough here to help others. Are you planning any research trials? I would volunteer but I never want to feel that lousy again. Thanks for making me feel so good.”

Paula W.

“I am so excited about this program. I weighed 498 pounds and on my own I lost over 200. Then I became stuckand couldn’t lose any more. I tried many different diets and they all failed. I read JJ’s book and, once againdecided to try. I started on Dec. 11, 2012 and wanted to lose the 7 pounds in 7 days. Well, I lost 11. I continued following the plan and as of today have lost 34 pounds in 26 days! I am so excited and for the firsttime in more than 10 years, I have no knee pain or back pain. Really, no pain of any kind. I am off all of the medicationsand have started exercising. That in itself was a miracle for me!

I know that it is so difficult when someone has so much to lose but when you see results this fast and youfeel this great, it is truly something that should be shared. I am a chef and love to do creative things with foodand this has just opened up a whole new passion.”

Belinda P.

“I was trained in nutrition from one of the top scientists in functional medicine, Dr. Jefferey Bland and other specialists with Metagenics, in San Clemente. I was also very involved in the Saddleback Church in Orange County, CA’s Daniel Plan that involved Drs. Mark Hyman, Daniel Amen, and Mehmet Oz. Funny thing is, it took seeing that PBS special to put me on track.

I was shocked that it only took two days to see the difference in the knee and hip pain. That in itself makes the sacrifices worthwhile. I can now get out and run again comfortably. I’m looking forward to seeing the weight loss benefits. I found the changes quite simple, but was already looking at Gluten Free/Casein Free for my 8-year-old who has sensory processing dysfunction and does so much better on this type of diet.”

“First of all, I wish you and your family all the best during these trying times. Having read your letter only touched home with me as I have been traveling the globe on a regular basis for nearly 25 years and know just how hard it is when you’re thousands of miles away from home and wanting to be near family and friends. My toughest was during 9/11 when I landed in Hong Kong around the same time that the terrorism was taking place in New York. The several days that I was stranded in Hong Kong was terrible, but at the same time I knew my family was safe, so I focused on sending my energy to those that needed it the most in New York.

Back in late October/early November, I saw your program on public television here in Los Angeles. While not being a big TV watcher, I was immediately connected to your program and figured that a lot of the things that you mentioned as being possible causes for aches and ailments were things that I’ve been polluting my body with mostly all of my life. This information, in conjunction with seeing several of my friends having heart attacks and other related health issues, made me decide that it was time to take, what I thought would be, a very difficult challenge, thus following your program of giving up eggs, soy, corn, gluten, and the other highly reactive foods. Well, that day has gone and I’m still holding true to the program, and as you promised, I’m feeling better than ever! I’ve lost around 10 pounds (diet combined with exercise) and have so much more energy. Although I was never a big consumer of sugar, I did use the substitutes quite a bit in coffee. Turns out that the substitutes seemed to be the hardest for me to be rid of. However, after several days, I didn’t care anymore and have grown accustomed to living without it.

Fast forward, I’ve downloaded your e-book and now living a life of exercise and following your advice on eating habits. I’m extremely grateful for your having introduced me to a better way of life and continue to spread the word to family and friends. I realize it’s all about whether a person wants to take charge of their own life, which may be difficult for lot of people, but many folks have seen my change, which I hope will spark themselves in wanting to change their ways and start living a healthier life as well.

So to close, I just want to say that your traveling for all the TV shows and other book promotions are all well worth it. If it has changed a person like myself that’s not really a TV kind of guy, just think what it’s doing to get other folks on track to want to do something for themselves. I just wish that I had known about your health program all those years that I was traveling the globe. But it’s never too late and I feel great today!

P.S. I especially liked your tip about “no excuses for those that travel.” I purchased a personal blender to pack in my suitcase.”

heather-kuo“I started the Virgin Diet Challenge to take my nutrition and hopefully weight loss to a new level. I had been exercising and trying different ways of eating with minimal progress. I was ready to try anything! I was very curious with your ideas and wanted to see the effects the 7 foods had on my body. Once I found and tested my lateral shifts I was ready. Dairy was the hardest for me. I love cheese, especially cottage cheese and ate it almost every night. I also wasn’t sure I could do without my half and half with my coffee. I knew I’d be fine omitting cottage cheese and creamer for 21 days. I also thought that would be fine and I’d be able to add it back.

Well after my 21 days I was just as happy leaving cottage cheese out and substituting coconut creamer for my half and half. I didn’t expect that. I saw so much progress in the 21 days I didn’t want to jeopardize it so when traveling for Christmas I packed my hand blender, chia seeds, protein powder, and a starter supply of almond/coconut milk! Throughout the trip I felt great and not deprived in the least. I came home a half a pound lighter than when I left for a total of 12 pounds. You can’t beat that. I have now introduced dairy and soy back in. Well, dairy will need to remain out for the most part. I just felt terrible after eating it. It’s just not worth it. I’m so glad I did this and plan to stay on it long term once I finish introducing the other items. .”

“Thank you for everything. I saw you on PBS and hit the DVR button. A few days later instead of deleting the show (which I usually do), I was compelled to watch it. I ordered the book in the middle of the show (from Amazon for my Kindle). That was over a month ago. I haven’t looked back.

Even though I should be adding foods now to find my sensitivities I am afraid to. I have had severe arthritis in my knees and hips for the past 3 years and a heart attack October 2nd this year. Yesterday I was out in the garden picking spinach, chard, and kale for lunch having completely forgotten about my pain. I plotted next year’s garden in my head and walked up the few steps to the deck without holding on to the rail.

I am 64 years old and had to retire early because of the pain. I had already lost 60 pounds within the year after that (all muscle) because of the way I was not eating.

Currently : 5’4″ 126 pounds. My pain went from a 10 out of 10 to 0 to 2.

Again thank you and I would like to hear more a about your son and his recovery. How lucky he is to have you for his mom.”

“I am a senior citizen (78 years old). I first saw you on PBS. I ordered the book very next day. I’ve been on the diet pretty much 98% since December 13th.. Cheated a bit on Christmas day with a wee bit of stuffing and gravy on mashed potato but no dessert. I want to thank you for making my life better after all these years of eating dessert for breakfast. I’m feeling much better, more positive, more clarity, focused, with more energy. After the very first shake I lost my cravings for sweets and within 2 days my allergies began to clear up. I am super sensitive.. I am still struggling with the meat issue. I used to eat beef when I was eating all the other junk, but now I find that since I have more clarity and other other benefits that the meat makes me sluggish next day. (It was grass-fed.) I love fish and that doesn’t seem to affect me the same way. I cannot do all the exercises you recommend. I can run up 8-9 flights of stairs per day if I’ve slept well. I have been doing yoga for years and also walk weather permitting. I raised 7 children and I’ve been to hell and back, with the usual trials and tribulations in life. Thanks again for giving me back my life !! ”

But the most remarkable thing is that I am off my blood pressure medicine. I am a true believer and I am so thankful that I accidently came across your diet. For the record, I’m 53 my husband is 68. I’m thrilled to have lost the weight through this difficult time of menopause. Everyone has said it’s impossible to lose weight now. I’ve proved them wrong.

I am currently 133.5 lbs and my goal is 125. I am very close now!

If nothing else, I’d like to thank your plan for making me gas-free for the first time in my life. The absolute peace in my stomach and intestines is worth all the effort at changing my eating habits. Foods I thought were fast and safe were completely compromised by soy and sugar (in foods like my canned collard greens). I am down 13.6 pounds in under 2 weeks and almost arthritis and fibromyalgia pain free. I’m singing your praises to everyone I can.”

Lorraine S.

“I started the Virgin Diet using and now, after Thanksgiving, Christmas, family parties, work dinners, New Year’s champagne, I am down 7 pounds! I can’t wait to see what happens when I can buckle down and do the entire program. Oh, and the weight loss isn’t even the best part. I have more energy, sleep better, and the knowledge of the tub of ice cream in the freezer does not entice me in the least! My sweet tooth is gone (thought that was impossible) and my desire for bread is more for the convenience of a sandwich than a craving. I’m learning new ways . . .

When I was on Weight Watchers (successfully, I must add) and the winter holidays rolled around, the advice was to decide how many pounds you were willing to gain over the holidays and not go over that. Seemed okay at the time, but how much better to not even WANT to over-indulge because you’ve learned how great you feel when you avoid certain foods. And even better, to be eat “whatever I want” because I now want clean foods.

I wouldn’t have thought it possible that I would happily bypass fancy sweets with just a bite or 2, and I don’t swear I’ll never “fall off the wagon”, but in a few short weeks I discovered that food is not the only thing that is a treat. Feeling great is the true pleasure!”

Jeanette H.

“I saw your program on PBS a few weeks ago in passing and the title caught my eye so I searched it to record. I took one Saturday morning to watch it and it spoke to me on many levels. But other programs have made promises in the past that really didn’t pan out so I was skeptically optimistic.

Well just over three weeks, and Christmas, have passed and I am still shrinking. The plus is I’m not killing myself on a treadmill and slinging weights for hours on end this time. To put your theory to the test, I tried to eliminate all 7 foods for the 21 days and not really change my routine drastically.

I am so far extremely happy with my results. I’ve lost almost 10 lbs in 24 days with less effort than ever before. I’ve done Atkins, Weight Watchers, and starvation diets.

I haven’t felt nearly as hungry on this diet as I did on EVERY OTHER diet I’ve tried. I’m not so hungry my stomach is sore, and struggle getting to sleep at night because I sacrificed way too many calories in the day.

What I’m trying to say is thank you so very much for putting this plan together. It has been a little tough finding good, clean food, but worth the effort.

I feel that your book, and diet, should be taught in every nutrition class in high school. The information you have in your book is far more useful in life than most things schools teach children.
Again, thank you very much.”

“I just wanted to say thank you JJ for The Virgin Diet.

I have just completed my 2nd week of the first 21 days. After a lifetime of being hungry (I mean really stomach growling hungry and overweight), I am now at peace. Of course I am hoping to lose weight, but the gift of being released from the food obsession is truly a miracle. I am 53 years old and was hardly able to move because of joint pain. I had chronic IBS, Was ready for bed by 4 p.m., and was plagued by brain fog. Now I feel great, have so much energy and I feel hopeful, no, excited about my future.

Thank you for giving me back my life.”

“The Virgin Diet

You run around, stress levels rise, and inside your body cries. It wants to be calm and feel great. Well, JJ has the answer and its never too late.

So you take out the corn and you take out the soy. You start to feel better and start to feel joy.

Then goes the dairy, the sugar, the eggs. Your waist starts to shrink and you can show off your legs.

The gluten and peanuts have to go as well, but you really don’t care because you’re feeling quite swell.

The inflammation’s gone and your body’s feeling lighter. Your getting lots more sleep and not pulling those all-nighters.

You’re eating your meals correctly and exercising in bursts. You’re drinking lots of water to satisfy your thirst.

You feel just fabulous and you now know that it’s true: that JJ’s Virgin Diet was the answer for you!”

Chantel M.

“I do want you to know that my husband and I are feeling so much better, that I cancelled my doctor’s appointment with gastro doctor. For that I want to say thank you. I haven’t felt this good in a very long, long time.”

Karen & Bob G.

“I lost 25 pound in two weeks Thank you thank you thank you!”

shannon-lepore“I realize that I have a long way to go on this journey, but I have been so very happy with my results on JJ’s plan that I had to tell you guys. In the past I have followed Weight Watchers. I have NEVER felt this good in my 42 years of life.

I am a 42-year-old happily married woman with 4 children. I want to thank you for helping me improve my quality of life. I first heard about The Virgin Diet on Broadminded Serious XM. At the same time your book was released I was at an all-time low in my spirits and at an all-time high in my weight. I was about to cross the 200 pound mark any minute. I felt terrible. My head was always in a fog. I existed in this miserable state for about 6 months. The first thing that crossed my mind every morning as I opened my eyes was “I feel so fat”. I would crawl out of bed, push myself to go on with my day and never felt any relief. I hated it. I was eating things like whole grain English muffins (spread with PB2), pretzels and the frozen meals (the type Weight Watchers endorses), Subway sandwiches, making an attempt to do the best I could.

I began The Virgin Diet on December 10, 2012. I have lost 8 pounds. This is great, but the best part is how good I feel on the inside. My brain is no longer in a fog (which, by the way, started the first day). By day 3 I noticed my facial skin was smoother. I was so excited about what I was noticing. I am building momentum every day.

I had a total hysterectomy in March of 2012, which sent me into early menopause. I chose to use bio-identical hormone replacement. I use biest cream and progesterone capsules. I was experiencing hot flashes at least once an hour. It occurred to me yesterday during one of my hot flashes that it had been a long time since I had to “brace myself.” I wasn’t expecting this. I’m blown away.

Losing the weight has been a bonus, but the best part for me is how wonderful I feel and the reduction in my hot flashes.

“I am a 56-year-old man who is in shape and quit eating white “foods” years ago. I knew they were causing problems. I work out a lot and I don’t need joint pain. I knew I had some food intolerance issues still, but didn’t know what they were. You answered my query to the universe.I knew something was wrong and you told me. I bought your book a week ago, but started the program through chapter 8 (elimination) and in just a few days I have eliminated my occasional joint pain and my energy level is detectably noticeable. This is not a psychological effect. It is real because I have no sign of the occasional joint pain I had, and I feel 100 percent better. Thanks also for reminding me in your video how to work out.I did short burst sprints today (I did these when I was younger but forgot about them) and came home, had some good food, and I feel incredible. The recommendations in your book are working. I always didn’t feel 100 percent in the workout recovery process. Before, I felt sluggish instead of energetic. I now feel good after a workout even if my muscles are sore. I recover faster.

Thanks for giving life to people and helping them avoid the doctor. Thanks for all the wonderful info.”

Robert T.

“I have so enjoyed your PBS shows, which is where I got into this diet. Since December 5 I have lost 10 pounds. I lost 8 pounds the first week. I feel better than I’ve felt in a long time. My blood sugar readings and blood pressure readings are gradually coming down. My exercise is 3 – 5 days a week in water exercise at the local YMCA.

Thank you so much. I have fun saying I’m on the Virgin diet. I’m 72. Thank you.”

“My name is Susan. I am 64 years old. I am overweight and have pain from my back and hip. My sister told me about The Virgin Diet. I thought why not try another diet? What have I got to lose? She assured me that I would be very happy and surprised with the results if I stayed true to the requirements of the diet.

I started on a Sunday, and ate exactly what was allowed and nothing more.

To my surprise, I wasn’t hungry after each meal. Normally, I would eat lots of junk food and always be hungry. Always snacking, always eating. Not with this diet.

After one week, I decided to weight myself. I lost 8 pounds. I was 206 pounds and have been trying to break 200 for over a year and when I saw 198, I was so excited.

The pain in back and hip has diminished as well. I don’t feel the inflammation or the nagging pain.

Now I am going to try and do exercise. I couldn’t before because of the pain in my back and hip. It would hurt just walking through the grocery store or doing housework. But as I said.it has diminished noticeably.

I know overtime I will lose more weight. And one day I will be at my target weight of 150. That to me is a realistic weight.

I am so happy.

My sister says I probably had an allergy to one or more of the foods that are a no-no. Personally, I think it is dairy and wheat. But who cares, since these are not part of my diet.

Why my physician never told me this before I will never know.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. A diet (or rather, a way of life of eating) has changed me. ”

Susan B.

“I’m on day 8 of the Virgin diet. I didn’t want to weigh myself because I didn’t feel any thinner, but I gave in and weighed myself at the gym last night. I lost 5 1/2 pounds! And it my heaviest time of the month!

I felt horrible during the first few days, headaches and dizzy, but my gut felt GREAT from the second day and continues to feel great. My headaches are lessening as well as the dizziness, but are not yet gone. I’m really hoping they will be much improved by week 3. I don’t miss eating anything that I’ve eliminated so far. I hope this continues also.”

Rebecca L.

“My biggest issue was my diabetes and getting my blood sugar under control. For 3 years I tried every diet I could get my hands on. I wanted to treat my disease using diet and exercise rather than using pharmaceuticals. Nothing was working. Some things worked for awhile and then after 2 weeks, I was back where I started. I have been following JJ’s program for a little over a month and things are just getting better. My blood sugar has leveled out. I have reduced my meals from 6 – 7 per day to 4. And my energy has increased.”

Marilyn E.

“JJ, I love your book. I am learning so much. Today I read Part II. I kept saying, “This is me, this is me!” It all makes so much sense. Holidays or not, 21 Days starts now! I now get why my body does not absorb nutrients, why I am vitamin D deficient despite living in one of the sunny places on earth. I could go on! Thank you so much for sharing what you know. You’ve given me hope!”

Fiona B.

“Day 6 – Went to 2 holiday parties and was surprised that I was not tempted to cheat. Looking forward to seeing some positive results soon.”

Roberta G.

“The Artisan Bistro meals are phenomenal! I received my first order on Friday and ate the Chicken Creole last night. They absolutely DO NOT taste like frozen meals! There was so much chicken and large pieces. I was very impressed. These are great to have in a pinch when you just don’t feel like cooking and could easily grab a no-no food! I really appreciated the No Nut filter on the website. I have IgE reactions to all nuts, not just peanuts, and felt really comfortable ordering these meals online.”

Jennifer S.

“Before Thanksgiving I watched and recorded your presentation on PBS/Atlanta – Drop 7 Foods for Better Health, not for weight loss because I had a thyroidectomy years ago and had given up on ever losing my extra 25 lbs. but for the hope of feeling normal again. I’ve been a lacto-ovo vegetarian for over 35 years. (I now believe the soy destroyed my thyroid.) I was doing fantastic until recently. I lost my fog, my depression, a few pounds and ALL of the negative hypo thyroid symptoms I’ve suffered with for years. That was the best part. I felt so good. So this is how “normal” people feel: energy, NO depression, and positive attitude. It was just wonderful.

My depression came back. I spent all weekend searching for a clue as to why it was back. I read over my journals, watched your presentation again and re-read your book (yes, cover to cover!). My takeaways: I’m going be more careful with my meal timing and my portions. But the biggest and probably the reason for the change was that I was using large daily amounts of Xylitol in my green teas. I re-read your FAQ page and realized most brands on the market now are being made with CORN. Shame on me, I’m always reading the labels except this one time I didn’t! I decided early on that I would not reintroduce any of the 7 high-FI foods into my diet.

My lesson – ALWAYS read your labels!!! I’m looking forward to being “normal” once again. I’m giving myself 3 months to get it right then I’m going to shout “Yes, there’s hope for us” from the mountaintops of all the thyroid websites.

My friends and colleagues noticed the difference in my new positive personality too. Thanks to JJ and The Virgin diet I walk around with confidence and the true belief that 2013 is the year for ME.”

pamela-haack“Today marks the end of the 10th week since I’ve had a migraine headache. These have been 10 incredible weeks.

I’ve just turned 51 years old and I’ve never gone more than 3 weeks without a migraine headache in my entire adult life. Beyond the usual 24 – 36 hours of suffering through debilitating pain (approximately 2 – 3 per month), my daily life has been restricted by my migraine “triggers” of heat, dehydration, exertion, and lack of sleep. The list goes on and on.

Inhibitor drugs to relieve the pain have been a Godsend for me, but in recent years even those have been less effective.

But all of that changed when I read your book. As a fellow Experts Academy “graduate,” I read Brendon Burchard’s endorsement of your book with interest and ordered my copy right away.

Since the last week of November 2012, my husband (who will soon turn 61) and I have been The Virgin Diet participants and the results have stunned both of us. For the past 2 months we have been free of all 7 high FI foods, and to date we have not tested any of them. (We’re visiting a local, free-range farm in our area tomorrow, so eggs might be tested this week!)

Here is a list of what your eating program has done for us:

  • No more migraines for me. I’m stunned, amazing and oh-so-very-grateful!
  • No more sinus problems for my husband. He wasn’t even focused on that issue, but one day last month he woke up with a clear head for the first time in years!
  • Improved skin for both of us. We didn’t even realize we had poor skin until it got better. And what a difference! I’ve always described myself as having oily skin, but not any more!
  • Weight loss. We’d both let the pounds creep on over the years. We became soft: ugh! About 15 extra pounds for me, and 25 extra for my husband. And oh, that ugly belly fat! Now we’re down to losing the last few pounds, and I just wore a bikini on a recent trip we took to Maui. A bikini? Haven’t even owned one since I don’t know when!
  • We have more energy!
  • Our minds feel more alert.
  • Our attitude about our health is a 10.
  • Exercise is a daily routine and we love it! With my migraines I’ve never been able to stick with an exercise program. Exercise actually triggered my headaches. Now I’m bursting with joy! My husband is the best “trainer” I could ask for! Our daily bike rides, swimming sessions, walk/runs, strength training (on the list goes) are integrated into our days, and doing these things together is such fun.
  • Our sex life is … well … it’s better than ever!

A simple “thank you” is certainly not enough for such an enormous gift, but I’m sending it just the same, along with our sincere blessings to you for your important work in this world. You’re improving and certainly saving lives. Now that’s marvelous!!!!”

melinda-gentry“I have only completed 19 days of cycle 1 and today I had a 3-month follow-up with my primary care doctor. She was absolutely shocked at the difference in my blood pressure. I went from a blood pressure of 141/93 and a pulse of 98 to a blood pressure of 116/69 with a pulse of 77. I almost did a little dance right there in the exam room. Thank you JJ! This new lifestyle of eating is working for me. I have lost 13 pounds and have more energy than I have had in 10 years.

This is the second part of this testimony after 4 weeks of being on the Virgin Diet:

On Friday, February 1, 2013 I had a Lipid Panel drawn. I got my results today and I had to share them with you.

I am shocked at how much the diet has drastically changed my lab results. So excited!!!

Thank you JJ Virgin!

andy-grant“Today ends cycle 2 of The Virgin Diet. I’ve lost 26 pounds and now know which foods do what to my body. This was so much more than any diet, it was more of a science experiment, with me as the rat, as I removed and added foods and tracked my symptoms.

Cycle 3 is the rest of my life. Gluten, soy, dairy and eggs are gone for me, 95% of the time. The biggest surprise is not craving anything that was removed. I can easily live this way. ”

“Hi! I caught your infomercial on my local PBS station a few months ago in the middle of the night. Where were you a year ago? I have been fighting candida/food intolerances/digestion issues/anxiety/fatigue. All the research I have done over the past year is condensed in your book. It is amazing how you touch on all the things I’ve learned from various places over the internet. Your book is really amazing. I have been suggesting everyone read it and change their lives.

A year ago I was diagnosed with candida and my life completely changed. I have learned so much about food and nutrition and in a way I’m glad it has happened because I feel like I’m able to help so many other people. I have cut out sugar, gluten, dairy, and soy from my diet and am feeling so much better.

My husband went gluten and dairy free to support me and lost 25 pounds. He also realized he’s lactose intolerant!

I have two daughters (ages 3.5 and 5.5) who also eat along the same lines. We make all our foods from scratch and don’t eat anything processed. We eat lots of coconut oil, nuts, fruits (not me because of the candida) and vegetables. We all are feeling so much healthier and I’m so eager to share my results with everyone. It really makes me sad to see the crap that people put in their bodies…and especially to see what parents feed their children.

Basically my health issues were a blessing in disguise and I’m trying to help everyone else along the way. I am so passionate about health and nutrition and have suggested your book and website to so many people in the past month. I love the approach you took on explaining how each of the FI foods are harming your body. For example, what exactly GMOs are and what cows/chicken are fed. It’s really eye opening and I’m hoping a lot more people will take notice in what they are putting in their bodies. Thanks again, I’m a huge fan!”

Jennifer M.

“Just wanted to say thank you for writing The Virgin Diet. My husband and I have been using your plan for the past 3 1/2 weeks and are feeling so much better. He has lost 13 pounds and I have lost 10. We don’t ever intend to find them again!

I have had doctors suggest that I cut out certain foods, but they never could give me a specific plan. I have not been unhealthy, not obese, but have complained about lack of energy and problems with my skin in the past.

What I never admitted to my doctors was my whole digestive system and how dysfunctional it was! I am 63 years old and have been praying that I could figure out what foods were causing me such distress, but had no idea how to figure it out.

When I saw you on Rachael Ray, I knew immediately that you had the answers I was looking for. I downloaded your book and read it that evening, reread it the next day and made my plan, shopped, and started the very next day.

I can’t tell you how relieved I was when I realized I had eaten my evening meal on my third day and realized that I hadn’t “blown up.” Since then I have felt normal. Well, except for my second day with eggs, but now I know they are not for me at this time in my life.

My husband is also feeling wonderful and is wondering what food it is that doesn’t work for him. Big bonus: he isn’t snoring anymore! I did make him read your book, so now he understands why all those sweet treats are not good for him. I don’t have to be the food cop: he is taking care of himself.

Thank you again for all the work you have done to publish your book, and for the work you do to help people understand that there is something wrong with the information most diet programs are selling us.

Our 40-year-old daughter bought your book and is following it. And our 35-year-old son and his wife are starting your plan today. We are their cheering squad! ”

“My name is Susan and I’m 57 years old. I have been struggling with my weight my entire life. Many times I decided to give up and just be fat. But something inside me would not let me do it and I would study some more and try again.

My main issue has been binge eating and uncontrollable cravings. I thought I had an eating disorder. Compulsive overeating.

When I was 49 I met my 2nd husband and traveled to Liberia, West Africa to get married. I spent a year there eating the traditional Liberian diet of fish, rice, fresh fruits and veggies and palm oil, and walking everywhere. No Mickey D’s there! When I returned to the states I was 83 pounds lighter!

To my dismay I quickly regained all the weight I lost there and more. Within 6 months’ time, I was 100 pounds heavier. In the next 3 years I got sicker and sicker. High blood pressure, diabetes, allergies, fatigue all took their toll and last year I became almost entirely immobilized, only able to walk very short distances and stand no longer than 30 seconds at a time! To grocery shop I had to use the electric cart, and to go anywhere else my kids had to push me in a wheelchair.

I lost my job in April and due to my physical challenges could not return to work. Things were pretty bleak. About 6 weeks ago I saw you on The Rachel Ray Show and was riveted listening to every word you were saying. It was as though God tapped me on the shoulder and said, ”Pay attention, this is the answer to your prayers.” I honestly got goose bumps! I told my husband, “I think this is my answer,” and he agreed.

I bought The Virgin Diet ebook shortly thereafter and began the diet 38 days ago. The changes have been amazing. I can control my appetite and stick to an eating schedule without willpower! No more cravings for bad foods. This is HUGE!

My joint pain has also significantly reduced, my headaches gone, my skin is clearing up (including age spots fading), my nasal congestion and wheezing are gone, plus I’ve lost 17 pounds.

Most importantly, my mobility has returned. I’m weak for sure, but I’m now able to do most of my shopping standing up, and can stand for 10-15 mins in line. I can carry in my groceries and put them away, do my laundry, wash my dishes standing up! Quite a change from my kids and husband having to do everything for me, including dressing and bathing me!

I know that as long as I keep on doing what you’ve taught me to do that all of this extra weight will come off.

Oh, by the way, my starting weight was 392 lbs.

Thank you, thank you, thank you JJ Virgin for sharing what you’ve learned with the world. Because of you I will now overcome this lifelong affliction! What a blessing you are to me.”

Susan J.

ashley-w-before-after“As I’m sitting outside this morning, drinking my Virgin Shake for breakfast, coming off of another great burst style workout, I realize I don’t even know myself any more. I have you to thank for that, JJ.

Just 58 short days ago, I put my old life behind me and I never plan on looking back! I loved food. I used
food to represent any emotion. Happiness, celebrations, depression, bad news, stress, all was fixed with food. Food controlled my life; I ate and thought about what I would eat next. I have worked at a restaurant for 12 years, so access to delicious, unhealthy favorites is never a problem. Food consumed me!

Then one day in November, my husband recorded “Drop 7 Foods, Feel Better Fast” on PBS because the name caught his attention. We watched it together: the health nut, active, works out 5 times a week husband
beside me.

I loved your research and diet plan, but hated you for wanting to take away my diet cokes, bread and fast food! But things you said seemed to make sense and reluctantly I agreed to start “The Virgin Diet” for our New Year’s Resolution.

We bought the book and spent most of December researching and preparing for this new way of life. January 1, 2013 we started.

Three days in, Ray got the flu, dropped way too much weight (that he didn’t need to lose) and decided he wasn’t going to stick with the lifestyle. I looked at him and said, “I’m in this with or without you.” 3 days is all it took and I was hooked. I had never felt better in my life. I never felt hungry, I never craved anything, I never thought about food, my headaches went away, I was sleeping better, my skin looked better, I had energy and knew there
was something life changing about this.

After 21 days, I decided that I felt so amazing I didn’t add anything back. So here I am, day 58 with all 7 foods still out of my life and I’ve lost 27 pounds. While still being a work in progress, I look and feel better than I ever have. I workout 4-5 days a week and love it and can’t ever imagine letting food control me again.

JJ, you have given me access to a life I didn’t even know was possible. If I can do this, ANYONE can! I know this by the responses of my friends and family. When they see me, they ask so many questions and about 2 days later I get a call that goes like this, “I just bought that Virgin Diet book, what do you put in your shake, where do you get your protein powder…..” I love it!

You have taken an unmotivated, unhealthy person and given me the tools to change everything! You simply inspire the un-inspirable. I can’t thank you enough for doing that!”

cheri-l-before-after“When I was 36, I was diagnosed with a pancreatic cyst. I ate a hamburger and big meal after performing concert piano in the City of Santa Monica in April, 1996, went out to dinner with a friend at a good restaurant, and came home, unable to sleep, doubling over with pain, walked down Montana in Santa Monica, hobbling over, into the first doctor’s office I knew about, and he shot me with pain killers, let me sleep all afternoon until I could move again. He sent me to a specialist, who diagnosed me with a cyst and said I had to wait 6 months to let the walls form around the cyst, or I would die from the acids if they drained it now. I performed one more time in the Summer of 1996. Then, in September, after performing again, I doubled over so badly, my friend who was an opera singer, took me to the emergency room. I had no health insurance as a musician, still not making enough money on my own, but very popular in the City of Santa Monica, as they sponsored my student and solo recitals and we started a program for kids who could not afford musical instruments. My family, on my mom’s side, grandparents, etc., I found out later, all died of pancreatic problems. My mother died at 72 from diabetes.

During the surgery, they drained the cyst. I was a mere 90 pounds, looked and felt like I was dying. The surgeon came in and said to me that they performed the WRONG surgery. I had a pancreatic tumor, 11-1/2 inches in diameter. You could feel it protruding from my stomach area. They said they needed to remove most of my pancreas, as I would be lucky to have 3 MONTHS to LIVE!

While I was in intensive care, the nurses told my friend (family in the East and many deceased) to pick up ALL my things. The man next to me with a similar surgery passed away. Well, I made it. Told them NOT to give me much morphine and snuck some fiber, psyllium, to get my body moving. They claimed I was a miracle.

About 10 years ago, almost 2000, at least 20 doctors were arguing if I was living or dying. They put me on hold for 6 months while I worked, still living with a miserable digestion.

I went to health food stores, drank George’s Aloe, exercised regularly as a long-distance biker until I was hit by a car in Long Beach, CA while biking (not my fault). My leg would never be the same.

When I moved home to Ohio in 2008, I started to gain weight from stress of the move and the recession. Then, Thanksgiving evening, 2012, I began to have pains again, could not sleep, terrible digestion, and I prayed to God, “Don’t let me die before my dog, MaLassie,” as she just lost her brother Sir Laddie, the year before, and who would take care of her at 11 years old? I was on the couch with PBS on, and here comes JJ Virgin, talking about diet, foods to avoid, gluten, everything. I missed the first part, but it was enough to arouse my interest and curiosity. I started to get off Gluten in December, but I could not afford the book at that point due to house payments, insurance and a medical bill. So, I purchased it in January after seeing her again on PBS. Literally, I sat at the TV taking NOTES! Then, through December and part of January, I cleared my kitchen of all the YUCK, the soy, the gluten, the dairy, etc.

I thought I better live it up for my birthday on January 12th, went out with a dear friend, we plowed down cheese biscuits at the Red Lobster, great food and dessert! Again, I felt miserable, and started the diet about a week after my birthday.

The first week, I was bloated, writing to the counsellors at JJ Virgin, I’m so bloated, not losing any weight, my head was foggy, I could hardly focus on my Chopin Scherzo in B Flat minor. They responded that it should pass unless there was something seriously wrong. My old scale put me at 145, and three weeks later, the scale said, 145, but a miracle happened. I felt so much better. I did not FALL asleep after I ate a meal, like I generally do. Immediately before starting the GLUTEN test, I went to Big Lots, got a digital scale on sale, took it home, and put it in the bathroom. It said, 123, another place it was 124, so I said, oh,, this old 1856 school house is so old, the floors are not even, no place to balance the scale. I took the scale BACK to the store, got a refund, and the following Monday, after being on Gluten for almost 4 days, I weighed myself. Again, in the bathroom, it said, 126. I said, Oh no, no way did I lose that much weight. On the carpet I weighed 160. I said to myself, “That’s really wrong!” So, my doctor’s appointment was the very NEXT DAY. I stood on the scale with my shoes on, clothes and warmers, and closed my eyes. “I don’t know how much I weigh, but I feel better”, wearing my big warmers under my regular jeans, then asked, with closed eyes, how much do I weigh? The nurse exclaimed, “127! I was elated! I must have gained some weight on the gluten and did feel bloated, also sugar increased on the gluten! But, my average 3-month sugar count was 5! That’s good for a diabetic! The doctor was amazed.

I am 5’2”, small bones, and now weigh 121. I am wearing cords I have not worn in at least six years, still want to get into my size 8-9’s so I can again give a classical concert in the City of Zanesville, Ohio, which needs endurance, energy and the less weight to play the dynamic and technically difficult pieces, the better. PLUS, my friend is sewing a new dress for me to reward me for following JJ Virgin’s Diet. What a treat! Thanks so much to JJ Virgin and her staff. Our country is over weight. Everywhere I look now, I see fat, fat, fat. I go to gatherings, see all the food, and think, “YUCK!” as I take my apple and nuts with me to snack on while others devour all the insane products out there. Thanks so much! Let’s hope I live on for a while to send you a CD of music! I just turned 63 in January!”
